Vesper App Reviews

Gruber, youre a loser.

Arrogant pricing for abandon-ware. Just jacktastic, Philly fella.

Bugs, so buggy, and developers MIA

So many bugs. Doesnt sync, crashes, freezes. Not enough time to list all of them. When was this app last updated? Do the developers when care? What a bunch of crooks! Dont waste your money. I wish I could get mine back, even if just a portion. Not that the amount matters, but because its a matter of principle and acknowledgement that Ive been sold a product that has utterly degraded over time.

Abandonware

Gruber and co. should be ashamed of themselves to still be charging $10 for an app that is no longer being supported or updated.

Sync wont log in anymore

This seems abandoned. The ability to backup and sync notes wont log in for me anymore. Unknown error. The support link takes it to a single frame homepage showing the app on a phone. No dice.

Abandoned, please avoid this app, please buy something else.

Considering the high pedigree behind this app (ex. John Gruber), one would think support questions wouldnt be ignored for over a month, but the people behind this app are not active about keeping this app going. Very unfortunate and slightly disgusting. Please avoid this app at all costs, please use Simplenote, Evernote, or anything else instead.

Declining in Usefulness (now even more)

Not a trace of iOS 9 updates (or iOS 8, for that matter), no sign of a Mac app that’s been promised for years, and an infuriatingly bad select & copy behavior that borders on uselessness especially in lengthier notes. No longer recommended. Update: after I tidied up all my Vesper notes and tags on the iPad, the app stopped syncing with the iPhone app. Now it’s become *really* useless. And I would’ve thought that genuine style would encompass sustainability.

Native iOS Notes app is easily 10x better

Please dont waste your money on an app that has seemingly been abandoned by the devs. Furthermore the native iOS Notes app is easily 10x more full featured than Vesper. Features that Vesper doesnt have: Support for 3D Touch Support for Secure Notes Drawing/Sketch Tools Tight integration with Siri Tight integration with iOS share sheet Still not optimized for iPad Pro or Apple Pencils 3 months after release Support for TouchID Works seemingly across all of your iOS/OS X devices. Theyve been promising a Mac app for over 2 years now. This app hasnt received an update in over 11 months (besides 1 small update to fix an annoying bug). I recently encountered a problem in which I seemingly lost months of data from multiple notes. I was able to resolve said problem myself, but in the course of trying to do so I contacted vesper support via both e-mail and Twitter. Over three weeks later, no one had responded. Gruber also failed to respond to multiple tweets, although he still heavily promotes Vesper on his site. Due to the lack of support, I honestly couldn’t, in good faith, recommend this app to anyone.

Stick with the native Notes.app

Hasnt been updated in forever

What happened?

This app is an embarrassment, Gruber.

Abandon ware

Should be deleted from the App Store by the developers. It was always a wish. Launching without sync across device or ability to store images. I did get a laugh out of the app icon which I guess is supposed to be akin to a physical notebook with a latch. But more resembles a Japanese toilet and seat.

Abandoned and incomplete. Do not buy.

The high price was meant to re-establish the value of software in the "race for the bottom" pricing environment of the App Store. Thats fine, but your software has to actually have value, and not just be a statement on pricing. This app essentially has ZERO support, and the high price now seems cynical or delusional.

suckerware

Heavily promoted as an app that would just work and just get it right with a limited but wisely chosen feature set, then all but abandoned. Dont fall for it.

Good app that cannot be recommended

This is a good app. Its well designed and simple. Unfortunately at this point it seems to be an abandoned passion project, and hence I cant recommend it.

Still does what its supposed to do

While it has been a long time since Vesper was last updated meaningfully, its still the best app I can find for capturing thoughts and organizing them. Every time I try out another app, I end up coming back to Vesper because... 1. Its beautifully and simply designed. 2. The syncing quietly works. 3. All I do with the app is write. Theres no distraction with features, or sharing, or automation, or formatting. 4. The editor lends itself to writing on an iPhone. I enjoy writing with Vesper. 5. It works like a little notebook in you back pocket would work. You write something, it stays there where you put it on the page. Simple, yes, but not always understood by other apps. I do hope to see a Mac app in the future to view my notes but the sharing feature is functional enough when I need to get a note out of Vesper.
