Vesper App Reviews

Elegant but lacking in features and overpriced at $5

This is a well designed app for taking quick notes, and it allows for categorization through tagging (which works like gmail labels). It is overtly minimalistic which works well in the context of iOS 7. However for $5, you can probably find much more sophisticated solutions. This app has no syncing ability whatsoever and isnt designed for iPad, for instance. If they can at least add those two things it would go a long way towards justifying the lofty price.

Ok

My main criticisms are the lack of sync to either gmail like the standard app or Dropbox and the FOUR taps required to delete a note 1. Tap note 2. Tap callout 3. Tap delete 4. Confirm delete Yikes. Deleting the tutorial notes is a hassle off the bat.

Wonderful!

At first, I was using Vesper for small notes. It is so amazing to use that Im now using it for general writing. It feels good to write in Vesper. I love how the app is responding to every action I do. Swapping, tapping, tagging, moving around blurbs, sliding the keyboard away to read; its such an incredible and joyful experience that I dont care for any other writing software. I prop my iPad on its Smart Cover and I start vesper with a latte. I write more consistently with this app. Sometimes, writing is about finding the right groove, the right setup. Its either your chair, the coffee, your mug, a place you go to. Vesper is now part of the comfort I seek when Im writing. Its so much more than a note taking app. Experience is everything and Vesper gives.

Just Buy The Darn Thing

I hate taking notes on the iPhone. Then it became a necessity for my job so I bought Vesper. Its simple, fast, and has the right features. I wish I could take multiple photos per note though. Anyway, you should buy this app for the Q Branch Credits page alone. Its awesome. Easily worth $4.99.

Beautiful, but desperately needs a sync service.

Obviously it cant hook into iCloud Motes, but it needs some way to sync against a desktop. Website, Dropbox support, iCloud, doesnt matter. Something, anything to allow you to access your notes on a different device and to push small pieces of text quickly.

Perfect

Its so simple and well thought out. Ideas just flow onto the screen when Im using this app. Itll be even more perfect when sync comes along.

Significant bug

The update moves this into 5 star territory. Faster delete. Better font IMHO. Main thing missing is still icloud back up. Update. Thanks to another reviewer I found the solution to this problem so have changed my rating but this was certainly not intuitive in any sense Its a cool app but to me a massive bug unless Im missing something. Try quickly putting in a URL as the note title I was using this to keep track of some sites. If you put the URL in as the title. As soon as you touch it the browser opens. Therefore you can never delete it or do anything else other than archive.

This, and Phone.

The notes app I use

Elegance and quality shine through. I am drawn to using this app. It looks and works smoothly and stylishly. Looking forward to sync. And perhaps one day an iPad version.

Awesome app

This is a great application. It has made all of the built in applications (i.e., notes, calendar, reminders) useless to me. The interface is beautiful, being able to add photos into each note is an awesome feature. A corresponding iPad app which could sync would be the only thing on my wish list. Would love to be able to take a few notes on my iPad and be able to view that later on my iPhone.

A touch too minimal

By too minimal I don’t mean the interface, which is fantastic, but the feature set. The app itself is great for getting to the heart of why you opened it…to write down your thoughts quickly with no hassles. So many apps forget that by making you think about what you want to do rather than just DO. The setting are a bit sparse, and others have given many great suggestions on how to beef them up a bit, but I like the idea of making everything optional and off by default. Only allow the user to make things more complex if they want to and understand the tradeoffs. I find Evernote to be overwhelming and ugly, so I’m thrilled to have a better option. I know sync is coming so I won’t rail on that, but I do have a suggestion that might saltily some in the interim (as I know sync might take a while)…import/export functions. I would love to switch over from Evernote full-time but I have some notes in there that I still refer back to. Unfortunately, aside from typing them all again, there’s no import function in Vesper. Conversely, an export function might alleviate some of the concerns about backup and mistrust of iCloud. Just a thought. Otherwise, Vesper is a fantastic app that is my go-to when I have a random thought that doesn’t really have a purpose yet, but may someday.

Dont listen to those lists of suggestions!

I have never felt more continually satisfied with an app purchase. It is beautiful and absolutely perfect as it is. Please dont listen to those "Lists of improvements". The beauty of Vesper is in its speed and simplicity... Adding those extra features will only slow it down and complicate it.

Really annoying bug

Theres a weird bug where the screen jumps a dozen or so lines up whenever I delete a line or tap the caret for a copy/cut/paste dialog. If I delete a line, my view jumps up several lines such that I cant see whats being typed anymore and have to scroll back to the bottom. It hasnt been fixed for a really long time, and I cant imagine what kind of code is required to delete a line that might make change the screen view so drastically. The design of the app is great, but its hard to support an app that hasnt fixed such a basic issue for so long. I follow Daring Fireball and I get where Q Branch is going with this app, but I cant keep using it to take notes if this bug persists.

Finely crafted

Simple, clean, and beautifully crafted. Even if you dont take a lot of notes its worth trying Vesper to observe the animations, visuals, and details.

Nice solid note taking experience

I like Vesper. Solid note taking, thoughtful and beautiful design. No other app I’ve tried handles photos as elegantly. I’m looking forward to the Mac version

Great note app!

Best notes app around. Cant wait for the Mac version.

Superb

Vesper does exactly what it says on the tin... and does it very, very well. It makes note-taking fast, reliable, and, critically, pleasurable. I cant emphasize enough how nice it is to use this software. Youll *want* to make notes in Vesper, rather than going for what is most easily at hand, and as a result you will feel (and be) more organized. (Which Vespers intuitive tagging UI helps with anyway.) The latest version brings sync, for extra piece of mind. Would a web interface be helpful? Sure. A desktop app? Sure. And if the team ever gets around to those, Im sure theyd do a great job. But all the systems that promise to do all of that seem to become bug-ridden bloatware; for now, Id rather have the perfect pocket notetaking solution at its very reasonable price. Unambiguously highly recommended. Homescreen app.

Fantastic

Fantastic note taking experience down to most every detail! Really looking forward to the Mac version

Excellent!

Very straight forward and easy to use. Yet powerful once you start using tags. That is the real genius of the app is the ease of using tags. Normally I never tag my files or notes because it becomes a hassle but this implementation is super easy and enjoyable to use. Great Job!
