Vesper App Reviews

Im late and almost too late.

As some of you may know, Q Branch, the company that created this wonderful app is shutting it down. Its really sad to hear it go. I only started using this app recently but heard so many good things about it in various Apple-related podcasts, notably The Talk Show by John Gruber (host of the show and founder/co-founder of Vesper). Glad I managed to get the app before they pull it off of the App Store on 15th September. Good bye Vesper.

Dont buy this crap.

The developer obviously abandoned this project. It used to be promising. Now its just very disappointing.

Vesper is dead, long live Notes

Since the improvement of Apples very own Notes app, there is no reason to use this app: it does nothing better and is missing a number of features that Notes has. It had lots of potential, had the prominent backing of John Gruber, but now it is just a shell of an app.

New Export command fails

Nice idea to add the Export command. Unfortunately, when I try to export to Dropbox the app stays endlessly in the “Uploading…” dialog but never creates a file.

Pretty good

Una delle app migliori (e più care) chiude lasciando chi la usa avpiedi . Male e scorretto . Still something missing, what if I loose my phone ? How can I retrieve my travel notes? What if I wish to insert 2pictures in one single note? Or perhaps merge two notes together? And sharing from Safari? Im not looking for a bloated app still some basic functions should be there. I keep it and wait for updates.

Shame

Its shameful that they havent pulled this app from the store. Very disappointed in these guys. Totally abandoned, yet still charging $9.99 for an app that doesnt connect to anything on your Mac or the web and is probably going to become totally unusable in the next iOS upgrade. There are free apps that are more useful, and there are MANY paid apps that execute far better (and are still nicely designed) for the same or less $.

revised review

This notes app has a straightforward tagging system, great aesthetics, and great syncing. It has a barebones feature set, but thats not a bad thing, necessarily. It also features an absence of any kind of notes export mechanism, a completely ignored support email address, and a lack of any UI niceties afforded by larger-than-phone-sized displays, in the case of the iPad apps. It appears to be abandoned.

Abominable

Wow, $10 for abominable. Simple note is free, not to mention 10 times better. Apparently the developers dont care, which is fine, because nobody anymore cares about this app

Abandonware -- beware

This was a decent product, but when its programmer left for other ventures, it was left to rot on the vine. A shame, but not worth the investment.

Sync does not work

Sync between iPh and iPad only after log out / log in steps. What is wrong?

iPad support is buggy and almost unusable.

Total crap Dev support. iPad support is buggy. ------- old review----- No iPad sync, so cannot replace Drafts for me. Also, Drafts kills it in the export area, but Vesper has got tags and photo capabilities. If it gets an iPad app, were in business.

Do better

Really? Closing up shop and I have to export? And each note becomes a text file? This is unacceptable and everyone should get refunds. Gruber fail.

Sadness

Was such a great app. So sorry to see it go.

About time you pulled the plug

Nice waste of money this app was. I bought it years ago based on the promises of one of the most opinionated, self promoting guys on the Internet. Turns out John Gruber & pals were a lot of talk & very little action. This app was abandoned almost immediately after it was released. Let this be a warning to others not to bother with promises of snake oil like this in the future.

Bye Bye Vesper

The most expensive notes app finally gives up. Can I get a refund?

Use at own risk - being pulled

Look elsewhere. This app has been discontinued, and will be removed from the AppStore within a month. No updates, no support, no syncing. "Better Notes" by WalkSoft is free and supports tagging and images; consider that, instead.

Rip Off

Jhon Gruber who writes a blog suggested this app to the followers of the blog. I Got it to support the blog as I was a usual reader. Now they are discontinuing the app after never really developing it. Watch out for this type of developers

Oh well.

A good example of why subscription services are bad and why extremely expensive apps are bad. And this seems to be both. A $10 app for a service that is now closing and will be completely unusable. And if you havent logged in for a while, you may have missed the closing notification and youll be too late to recover important or invaluable data. I discovered this via Apps Gone Free. Thats how I heard of it today and checked it out. Sad to see all of this.

I agree with those who are unhappy. Thank Gawd I didnt have to pay.

There are several other note apps that are much better and have mush better functionality. No way to add to an existing note. No way to unarchive a note, and the list goes on of deficiencies. Sync is discontinued. Pull the plug, call it a day.

Uniquely designed abandonware

Vesper shows you cant sell an app based on idealism. Vesper looks clean, uses great fonts, and used to sell for a premium price. And it was apparently a colossal failure because now the app is end of life. Accounts are shutdown, users are told to transfer notes to other apps, and the app will be removed from the App Store forever. I would say Vesper is an example of the failure of good intentions, but I dont think the intentions were all that good. The original pricing seemed like a protest of App Store pricing. Q Branch was going to hold the line for the old pricing model. Developers rejoiced and sang their praises. Yet I remember the old pricing model back when I had a Windows Phone and then a Blackberry. Apps cost $10 to $20, and I never bought any of them. No one did. The times never really change, and no one bought Vesper. Now the download rate probably looks like a hockey stick. Vesper was also supposed to sell itself on its clean design and typefaces. This is subjective. I remember when Google and then Apple subjected is to the light, translucent, borderless designs. Now I can hardly tell what Im looking at much less what it does. Vesper is the designers personal vision of this ideal of the perfect clean app. Clean design is great until you need to find a button or toggle in order to get things done. Looking at the app, it doesnt look like I can do much with it. I wonder about the market Vesper was trying to serve. Super note takers use Evernote, Omni Notes, or OneNote. Casual note takers are well served by Apples Notes app. In a crowded market of notes app, Vesper did nothing overtly superior. Q Branch was ultimately asking us to pay $10 for the privilege of be holding Vespers unique design. Now I can behold that design for free. Lucky me.
